It’s Friday afternoon at Delhi’s Jama Masjid and the faithful are answering the call to prayers. The adjacent Meena Bazaar is busy as ever, and I make my way through its streets in search of something less pious.
Amid a row of hardware stores I find what I’m looking for: Yaseen Khan’s little shop. It looks like any other hole in the wall, but there’s something special about this place. It holds a treasure trove of old fashioned LP records from another era. And it gets a trickle of loyal customers.
This shop is something of a time machine. The LPs play amid the din of Old Delhi, blaring lines from Mughal-e-Azam.

Then the record changes, and the nuns from The Sound of Music make themselves heard across these lanes.
The cult of LPs will remain. But Yaseen Khan runs such a quirky little shop I’m always concerned popularity will turn it into something more mundane.
So if you’re a music lover you might want to trouble yourself to find this small store. Just don’t break any records.
