Lounge Podcast | Salsa in Delhi’s suburbs

A festival that aims to make Delhi the salsa capital of the world

Today’s show is about a salsa festival India Fiesta Latina 2013 that is on in Delhi. The event has brought over 80 salsa artists from across the world to Delhi, where the dance form is still exotic.

In a country which already has a rich heritage of various dance forms, so far Salsa has been confined to its Bollywood avatars and a handful of few dance classes. Neeraj Maskara, a salsa dancer and the show’s promoter tells us more how will the festival help promote the dance form in the country.

We also spoke to some of the international artists that will be performing at the festival.

First up, we have Super Mario from UK, who is a well known salsa instructor and is famously called the ‘man with a million moves’. Mario tells us how different is it to teach Salsa in India than the rest of the world.

India Fiesta Latina 2013 is on till 14 April at The Atlantis at Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida.

There will be 60+ shows by artists from Brazil, US, Colombia, Singapore, Australia, UK, Sweden, France, Poland, Spain, Portugal and also various workshops.

But in a city more comfortable with the bhangra, how a Salsa festival will be received, is yet to be seen.
