BACKSTORY: Started by Stanford graduate Rajeev Samant, who chucked up a high-paying Silicon Valley job to make wine on his family’s 30-acre plot.
AMENITIES: Wine tastings at the 2,000 sq. ft tasting room start from Rs100 for five wines. A three-bedroom villa?with an in-house chef and private swimming pool is available for Rs16,000 per night on weekdays and Rs20,000 per night on weekends.

BACKSTORY: Inspired by a newspaper article on India’s fledgling wine industry, three college friends, Abhijit Kabir, Sachin Khanolkar and Violet D’Souza, parlayed their experience in the building construction industry into opening up one of the country’s best-known wine brands.
AMENITIES:Day-trippers are encouraged to picnic on the property’s many terraces (snacks can be arranged if an order is placed in advance). A tour of the vineyard includes a complimentary bottle of wine (Rs450). Bottles from the onsite store start from Rs350.

BACKSTORY: After conquering the beer industry, Vijay Mallya set up a vineyard in 2007 with the idea of making it more appealing to younger consumers.
AMENITIES:A chateau-style bungalow with 16 suites, a tasting room and a swimming pool with a deck that can accommodate up to 1,000 people will open in October.
BENCHMARK WINES: Zinzi red and white (Rs275, tax included). Sparkling and red wines like Bouvet Brut and Bouvet Chinon Rouge range between Rs1,600 and Rs2,500, tax included.

BACKSTORY: The oldest vineyard in India, founded by Shamrao Chougule in 1982 after French experts thumbed their noses at the concept of an Indian wine. Later, he broke more barriers when he launched India’s first champagne, Marquise de Pompadour.
AMENITIES:A casual dining restaurant and wine bar called Ivy. A meal for two, with a glass of wine, costs between Rs300 and Rs500.
BENCHMARK WINES: The Chantilli Sauvignon Blanc is Rs405 plus tax. The Ivy range is priced at Rs582, tax included.
