BackReview: Sandisk Connect Wireless Stick
This tiny storage device has built-in wireless capabilities, which makes it perfect for sharing data across smartphones, PCs and more

Despite all the technology designed to make our lives easier, storage devices have remained painfully dated. So SanDisk’s battery-powered Connect Wireless Stick is a genuine revolution in its genre. The basic idea is to simplify the chore of moving files between multiple PCs and phones. It can also automatically back up photographs and videos from the phone.
It creates its own wireless hot spot, which devices can connect to. The single LED to indicate connectivity, Wi-Fi status and battery life is a bit confusing at times—a separate LED for battery would have been more useful.
To access the files on the wireless stick, you have to download the free SanDisk Connect app on your iOS and Android devices. On a PC, on the other hand, you have the option of either plugging it in via USB or using the Web browser to wirelessly access files. Three devices can stream from it at the same time.
The Connect Wireless Stick works at USB 2.0 speeds, and the maximum real-world transfer rates we got during testing were 17 MB/s (wireless) and 28 MB/s (plugged in to a PC). This is quick enough to stream an HD movie to your phone or tablet, but the USB 3.0 would have made this future-proof.
We got a little more than 5 hours on a single charge, which should be more than enough for travellers to access critical documents on the move or relax with a movie on a long flight.
All in all, it’s a rather useful accessory if you travel with a lot of work data, or simply need something to carry your music and movies.
