Microsoft’s Age of Empires, Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed, Eidos’ Commandos are some of the most popular video games based on political figures and historical characters. What makes them so popular with users is not just their gameplay but their political and historical overtone.
Here are some exciting video games from 2016 inspired by a political event, political characters or political ideology.
1979 Revolution: Black Friday

1979 Revolution: Black Friday is a narrative based adventure game which captures the events of the Iranian Revolution through the eyes of a photo journalist, Reja. Users get to control Reza, his movements and what he says, all of which can have serious implications for Reza and the people around him. The game is divided into 19 chapters drawn from the testimony of Iranian freedom fighters and witnesses caught in the midst of the revolution.
Vector 2 Premium
Set in a dystopian world ruled by a dictator where every action is being watched, Vector 2 is a parkour based running game where a nameless citizen decides to rebel. While the citizen will run automatically, user gets to control his movements like jump, sliding and parkour stunts to avoid obstacles and outrun the enemy. Jrump is a unique mobile game that takes a dig at the US president elect Donald Trump. It allows players to help Trump jump his way up to the outer space. The game starts with Trump looking for new ways to keep him busy. Finding new galaxies is his latest fixation. User can help Trump by drawing brick landings for Trump after every jump through a swipe gesture on the screen. User can draw straight line or slightly angled slides to dodge obstacles and help Trump get what he wants.
IS Defense is a first-person shooter game set in a hypothetical future where Islamic State (IS) controls the entire major part of West Asia and North Africa and is now launching an offensive against European nations. User gets to step into the shoes of a machine gun operator whose job is to defend the multiple entry points into the continent and stop the IS invaders right at the entry point. The primary weapon is the machine gun which comes with unlimited bullets, but user can use special ammunition such as rocket launchers or air raids for maximum impact from time to time.
Dictator 2: Evolution
Not directly associated to any political event, Dictator 2 is a strategy game filled with political machinations and tactics. The game is about a young dictator working on strengthening his regime. There are no action sequences. User gets to take decisions for the dictator such as who to eliminate, which country to attack, identifying and making allies and help in uncovering plots to overthrow the dictator. The game can be challenging but one can speed up things by paying real money on in-app purchases.
