Percept Art is hosting a show of the Mumbai artist Madhav Imartey in his own city, after a long time
The drawings, collages and paintings of artist Madhav Imartey aestheticize unused, mundane objects such as a typewriter, a juicer, a telephone instrument in such a way that their operational sounds become visible on the canvas. As such, the redundant objects get a musicality of their own, becoming interpretations of motion and sound.
Percept Art is hosting a show of the Mumbai artist in his own city, after a long time. The works span a period from 1990 to the present, and represent a body of work that falls broadly into an artistic tradition of making everyday objects meaningful through art pioneered by French-American artist Marcel Duchamp and by Prabhakar Barwe and Dilip Ranade in India.
Moving Images is on till 7 November, 11am-9pm, at Percept Art, P2, Ground level, Raghuvanshi Estate Compound, 11/12, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel (West), Mumbai (022-32991696).
