Drinking with Lounge | Egg-cellent Christmas

With the holiday season around the corner, Eggspectations restaurant is already in a festive mood. Its month-long Eggnog festival started on December 15 where it is serving innovative takes on the traditional eggnog. The popular European drink is traditionally made with hot milk, sugar, nutmeg and eggs, of course. Here are some new recipes:

Classic Eggnog

Ingredients

150ml milk

2 eggs

¼ tsp nutmeg

2tbsp sugar

Separate the egg yolk from the whites. Mix sugar and the yolks and add a tbsp of hot milk to form a smooth paste. Whisk the egg whites separately till frothy. Add hot milk, nutmeg and the the egg white to the to the yolk and sugar mixture. Top off with the remaning milk once the drink is poured into glasses.

Modern Eggnog

Ingredients

250ml milk

2 eggs

1tbsp sugar

¼ tsp nutmeg

2 scoops vanilla ice cream

Method

Separate the egg yolks from the white. Mix the vanilla ice cream and yolks. Add one tbsp milk to form a smooth paste. Whisk the egg whites separately till frothy. Add milk, nutmeg and the egg white to the egg yolk and ice cream mixture. Serve in a tall glass.

Nashville Nog De Cacao

Ingredients

250ml milk

2 eggs

2tbsp sugar

30ml chocolate syrup

30ml whiskey

30ml crème de cacao (chocolate liqueur)

Method:

Separate the egg yolk from the whites. Mix sugar, yolks and chocolate syrup. Add a tbsp of milk to form a smooth paste. Whisk the whites separately till frothy. Add milk to the egg yolk-chocolate syrup mixture while adding the egg white at same time. Finish by layering it with a spoonful each of whiskey and crème de cacao.

Captain Nog

Ingredients

250ml milk

2 eggs

2tbsp sugar

¼ tsp cinnamon powder

60ml Captain Morgan Spiced Gold

Method:

Separate the egg yolks from the whites. Mix sugar, yolks and cinnamon powder. Add a tablespoon of milk to form a smooth paste. Whisk the egg whites separately till frothy. Add milk to the yolk mixture while adding the egg whites at same time. Serve in a tall glass. Finish by adding rum and sprinkle some cinnamon powder on top.

The 24-hour restaurant, Eggspectations at the Jaypee Vasant Continental will also serve the Holiday Brandy Alexander Punch and the Jamaican Reindeer Punch with Rum with Kahlua and Eggs apart from the above four drinks.

The non-alcoholic Eggnog will cost you Rs225 (plus taxes) and the alcoholic Rs400 (plus taxes). The festival started on 15 December and will continue till 15 January. Walk-in’s are welcome.
