High water

The five high-altitude lakes of Gokyo lie at an altitude of around 4,750m in north-eastern Nepal.

The walk to Gokyo includes rich bird life, rhododendrons in bloom through the summer, sherpa villages and heritage monasteries. Fast-flowing rivers slice their way through steep gorges backed by stupendous snow peaks piercing the heavens. The peak of Gokyo Ri, a 2-hour climb from Gokyo, offers a view of four 8,000m giants—Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu.
