The arrival of new apps on official app stores means a user has more options to pick and choose from. The latest crop of apps on Google Play Store and Apple App Store offer a new music streaming app, an AI that can help you perfect your English speaking skills and a fun take on Sherlock Holmes. As usual, Windows Phone was snubbed by almost all app and game developers.

BitTorrent Now

Price: Free

Available on Android, iOS

BitTorrent Now is a music streaming app by one of the most popular Torrent clients. What sets it apart from the usual music streaming apps is that it treads on an entirely different track by offering music by less-known or emerging musicians and singers. The interface is pretty basic with the recommended music, trending music and your favourites as the key categories. You can also search for specific names and tracks in the search tab. There is a notification option to keep one posted of new additions to the platform.

Elsa Speak

Price: Free

Available on Android, iOS

This app is designed for users who understand English, but falter when it comes to getting the pronunciations right. Elsa Speak uses a Siri-like voice assistant, which first identifies the speaker’s mother tongue and then points out the influence of the other tongue on English. So the speaker can begin on a clean slate and participate in the pronunciation test designed for her. It is simple to use, and just needs a username to work. The only catch is that it needs active internet connection to work.

Share Phone

Price: Free

Available on Android

Share Phone is a handy app for smartphone users with children at home. It allows users to block access to their personal apps by simply hiding it from the phone’s interface when the phone is used by some other family member or chid. It is simple to use and you don’t need to log into a separate mode to use it. Just go to the Share Phone App, select the app or game the user wants. The next screen shows only those apps and hides away every feature and app on the phone. You can close it by shaking the phone and typing your Share Phone password.

iDoyle

Price: 130

Available on Android, iOS

This is an interactive book app designed for fans of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories. The cases are unabridged so you won’t miss out on any of the relevant details in the plot. A case lasts an hour and includes 70 interactive pages with beautiful illustrations and 25 minutes of different soundtracks to match the situation in the story. As of now, it offers only one case—the Scandal in Bohemia—but you can expect more cases as the app is developed by iClassics which has adapted works of several classics writers such as Oscar Wilde and Edgar Allan Poe in the past.

Google Expeditions

Price: Free

Available on Android

If you own Google’s Cardboard VR or any other VR headset which works with any smartphone, you should check out Google News Expeditions app. It looks like Google Street View, but is actually a lot more elaborate. It can be pretty handy in classrooms where students can be given a guided tour of monuments in Italy, or a tour of underwater life in the Caribbean. All users should be on the same WiFi network to use it. It is completely free to download and use and the expeditions can be downloaded over WiFi which means you don’t need an active internet connection to run it.

Crazy Cars Chase

Price: Free

Available on Android, iOS

Crazy Car Chase is a unique take on games like the NFS Most Wanted, where the users have to take control of their cars and reach a target without getting wasted or held by the police. The graphics are pretty basic and look more like Crossy Roads game, but the third-person camera view and brilliant use of touch screen controls makes it quite enjoyable. The game is free, works offline and rewards users with coins after every mission.
