Summer secrets
Pakhi Mohanani of The Makeup Lounge in Bandra, Mumbai, tells you why less is always more in summer.
The key to hot season make-up is to use as little as possible. It’s very tough to maintain a fully made-up face in the heat and humidity. Excess foundation runs easily, and will make your skin look patchy instead of giving it a smooth look.
Skin
Keep the skin matt. Dewy skin looks beautiful at other times, but during the summer it looks sticky. Use a mattifying cream, or a skin primer, to control excess oil secretion, and instead of a liquid base, use a powder foundation over it—remember not to use too much. It should be very basic for summer.
Eyes
Colour pencils are a lot of fun, easy, and just lift your look without looking too made-up. Use bright-coloured ones such as lilac, turquoise, green and yellow. Apply it either like a defined eyeliner, as they did in the 1960s, or like kohl on the inside of the lower eyelid, with a muted eyeshadow on the upper lid. Mascara on the upper and lower lashes opens up your eyes and allows the kohl colour to show.
Lips and cheeks
Pink lips are currently in trend— experiment with any colour from the pink family. Just keep the lips light and glossy.
For cheeks, contour under your cheekbones with a matt brown blusher and then use a bronzer or shimmery pink blusher on the cheekbones. This gives a well-contoured, structured look.
