You will feel like you are on a hill station," the PR girl accompanying me to the new Palms Hotel in Goregaon tells me—just as a blast of warm air hits me on the bumpy ride from the station.
The Royal Palms property already houses Park Plaza, a luxury business hotel, and this is its second venture in the same category. But here the rooms are designed villa style. “Every villa has its own pool." Okay, I’m interested now.

Palms Hotel, Royal Palms
The drive through the cool, green belt of Aarey Milk Colony gives you an indication of what the PR girl meant. The hotel aims to be a relaxing getaway, and there are 106 villas with swimming pools, personal butler and in-room massage services. Wellness villas come with an attached gym, steam and sauna, too. If you’re hot on visuals, opt for the Palms Valley View Villa.
The good stuff
“Can you imagine 110 pools in one hotel?" the manager asks excitedly. I can’t, so I am shown the Palms Corner Villa on the fifth floor. The personal pool (sizes vary from 9ft to 15ft, so don’t plan on doing laps here) with a deck is a nice touch. The big bathroom has a 19-inch LCD that faces the jacuzzi. The hotel is built on a slope and, to go from floor to floor, you call the buggy cart, not the elevator. Besides the business centre, there’s a coffee shop, an Italian restaurant and a pool deck bar with a view of the golf course and valleys.
The not-so-good
Talk plastic
Rack rates are Rs18,000 per night for the Palms Deluxe Villa; Rs22,000 for the Corner Villa; and Rs45,000 for the Family Villa. Taxes extra. Ask for the promotional offer that runs until September.
Grand Sarovar Premiere
“All the offices are close to our property, and the airport is just 9km away," Ajoy Balakrishna, general manager of Grand Sarovar Premiere, tells me. The NSE ground is a kilometre away, and Mindspace is just a few minutes. It was only good business sense for the hotel chain to set up here.
The good stuff
It has what every business traveller could ask for. Classy, clean interiors, Internet and Wi-Fi, and flat screen TV in every room, with a health club and rooftop pool thrown in. Their impressive restaurant, 180 Degrees, serves Chinese, Continental and Indian. There’s also an open-air grill and a cigar lounge. The hotel looks small, but packs every conceivable need, including a conference room and banquet hall.
The not-so-good
Space—the one luxury that this luxury hotel doesn’t provide. The walls of the small rooms will seem to close in on you if you have to spend a lot of time there. And the view, of an under-construction building and a traffic jam, will not provide any reprieve.

The single occupancy Superior Room is available at Rs13,000, and double for Rs14,000. The Superior Deluxe Room costs Rs1,000 more. Taxes extra. Ask for the promotional offer valid through March.
