Inside a winter of content

Long Island lies beyond the eastern fringes of New York City, US, and is perhaps best known for housing the vacation homes of the rich and famous in the Hamptons.

But Long Island is also a suburban paradise that becomes increasingly rural as you venture east. It offers locally made food and drink, and beach views free of bathers, especially in the off-season. On my visits to the island from New York City, I love to sip blueberry port at Duck Walk Vineyards, sample artisanal honey from Blossom Meadow, and crunch sweet-potato chips from North Fork Potato Chips.
