Light for Education, Pan-IIT Fundraiser Music Fest: Aurko—Live in Concert
8 March
Aurko, Bangalore’s “only Bollywood band" that plays everything from indie pop and mellow rock to bhangra, will perform at this fund-raiser concert to support Magsaysay awardee Harish Hande’s initiative to provide solar lamps to schoolchildren in rural areas. The band comprises Supratik Ghosh on vocals, Jeet on lead guitars and backing vocals, Avik on bass and backing vocals, and Ashish John on drums.

A Tribute to C Ashwath
7-8 March
The contributions of the late C. Ashwath, music composer and exponent of Kannada bhavageete, a genre of expressive poetry put to song, will be remembered in this tribute by vocalist-actor M.D. Pallavi. She will be accompanied by a 20-instrument orchestra, including N.S. Prasad on mandolin, Praveen D. Rao on harmonium, Venugopal Raju on tabla and Srinivas Achar on the 12-stringed guitar.

The biggest world festival of 10-minute theatre is back for the third edition in the city. The festival will feature over 60 never-seen-before plays in Kannada, English and Hindi. They include ‘Side Lower’ by Jugaad Co., ‘The Quest’ by Crea-Shakti, ‘An Honest Question’ by ASAP Productions, ‘Tu Nahi Aur Sahi’ by the Kalayan theatre group, ‘Paapa’ by Theatre Y, a comedy cocktail ‘Shorter n Sweeter’ by PunchTantraa, and ‘The Debt’ by Avirat Creations.

IndiEarth At The Park

The third edition of the music festival IndiEarth is being organized in collaboration with The Park hotel. There will be a performance by Siddarth Basrur, the lead singer of the metal band Goddess Gagged, followed by the solo project, Your Chin, of electronic/alternative band Sky Rabbit’s lead vocalist Raxit Tewari.

Works of JMS Mani

J.M.S. Mani is presenting a collection of his latest watercolours, themed around people and their professions—fruit-sellers, flower sellers, etc. He usually paints figurative works portraying the Badami people (of Karnataka) in vibrant colours, landscapes in watercolour and charcoal drawings, as well as abstract works in oil and acrylic on canvas.

Workshop on making Athangudi tiles
7 March
De Artisan, specialists in conducting workshops on traditional material and building technologies, will conduct a workshop along with traditional Athangudi tile-makers. Participants will learn how to make the famed Athangudi tiles, used widely in Tamil Nadu’s Chettinad region. The workshop will include a live demonstration by artisans and a technical presentation of the methodology.

Fareed Hasan and Adnan Khan+Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan

A Hindustani classical vocal and sitar duet by vocalist Fareed Hasan, disciple of Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, and sitar player Adnan Khan, disciple of Ustad Sayeed Khan. This will be followed by a vocal recital by Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the present khalifa of the Dilli gharana.

The Miturang Festival
9-10 March
The Pandit Amarnath Memorial Foundation is presenting this festival in commemoration of the 18th death anniversary of the Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Amarnath. Bindu Chawla will present Hindustani classical on Sunday. Day 2 will feature a Hindustani vocal recital, especially khayalgayaki of the Bhendibazar gharana, by Suhasini Koratkar and a solo flute recital by Pandit Ronu Majumdar.

Pandit Vasantrao Kadnekar
12 March
A Hindustani vocal recital by 83-year-old Pandit Vasantrao Kadnekar, who will be accompanied by Shrivatsa Koulgi on tabla and Dilip Chari on harmonium. Kadnekar presents rare bandish (compositions), attributed to the tradition of the late 19th century reclusive “singer-saint" Kunwar Shyam, and the layakari (rhythm) of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana style.
