If you thought Aamir Khan’s body transformation for Ghajini was impressive, wait until Dangal.
Khan—who has donned diverse looks from Raj in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak to Sanjay Singhania in Ghajini—on Monday tweeted a photo of his character in Dangal, a biopic on wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat.
The photo by Avinash Gowariker shows Khan’s muscular physique, accompanied by a caption.
The movie, shot in two phases, takes viewers through various stages in Phogat’s life. The first phase, where Khan plays the older Phogat, required him to gain 25 kg (going from 68kgs to 93kgs) in six months. The latest picture was taken on the eve of the second phase of the shooting, in which he had to lose 25kg to depict the prime years of the wrestler’s life.
The film also dwells on Phogat’s daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, two of six wrestler-sisters, who won gold medals in the 55 kg freestyle category in the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games (CWG) respectively. Also trained by the film’s protagonist is Vinesh Phogat, Geeta and Babita’s first cousin, who won gold in the 2014 CWG, but in the 48kg freestyle category.
Dangal, directed and written by Nitesh Tiwari, will release in December, starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sakshi Tanwar and Sanya Malhotra besides Khan. Produced by The Walt Disney Company (India) and Aamir Khan Productions, Dangal will inevitably be assessed in comparison to the Salman Khan starrer Sultan, a movie about a wrestler’s Olympic dreams, which is set to release this Eid.
