Fendi Casa's chairman and CEO Alberto Vignatelli talks about how the brand blends furniture with the interiors
Fendi Casa’s philosophy, since its inception in 1989, has been to create furniture and prestigious design objects that bring the unique Fendi flavour into homes all over the world, says the brand on its website. Chairman and chief executive officer Alberto Vignatelli tells Mint Indulge how the brand blends furniture with the interiors. Edited excerpts:
What is Fendi Casa’s approach in furniture? How much do you to try to blend classic design and modern aesthetics?
Since 1989, the year of the first collection, Fendi Casa has consistently interpreted the values and the stylistic heritage of the Roman luxury house translated in furnishing with an international and contemporary taste. In time, Fendi Casa has processed the message of exclusivity, research and passion for the detail typical of the great Fendi tradition, suggesting fascinating collections and furnishings.
You make furniture, but how much do you factor in the interiors these things will go into? Is there a standard “code interior" that Fendi Casa designers keep in mind? Can you share what this code looks like?
From the beginning, Fendi Casa’s aim was to seize the excellence of craftsmanship combined with the Fendi heritage in fashion collections. Today, Fendi Casa keeps on following this direction choosing, for example, the best leathers for sofas or the most precious wood types. Also, the art of fur, which has always distinguished the brand, is enhanced and applied in cushions, throws and accessories. We combine in our furnishings iconic motifs of Fendi tradition such as Selleria or Pequin in order to create a thread between the Fendi fashion world and the Fendi Casa design keeping alive, in new acceptances, the stylistic codes entered in the legend on style.
From a consumer’s perspective, how does one integrate good furniture into an interior? What advice do you give your buyers? How much should the furniture respond to the interiors and vice-versa?
The Fendi Casa proposals are born to offer a complete lifestyle. From sofas to armchairs, from tables to seatings, as well as accessories and decorations, the Fendi Casa offer ranges among furniture solutions for all environments and contexts. The high level of customization in each product ensures the possibility to choose from a wide range of coatings, from the finely crafted textures, to those in fine leathers tanned with ancient and traditional techniques. The Fendi Casa proposals are made to give a glamorous touch to the interiors and are studied to enrich the spaces.
What, in your mind, is the perfect Fendi Casa home? What does this home look like? Feel like?
After years of minimalism, today we discover a new interpretation of classical in home design. The style of Fendi Casa represents the tendency to unify and combine the contemporary design and the elegance of new symbols through innovative expressive notes. The perfect Fendi Casa home could be located in the most important cities around the world or in the most emblematic areas, but this is always synonymous of the perfect liaison between modernity and creativity, history and tradition with verve and typical meanings of the Italian taste.
What are the essential furniture elements of a house, according to Fendi Casa? What are the must-haves?
The living room is definitely the heart for Fendi Casa, with all its elements. Fendi Casa’s story is developed starting from the sofa, declined in many different models and collections. Armchairs represent an essential element of the house, too, flanked by tables and chairs. In the bedroom, the bed is the key element.
And finally, could you point out three-five iconic Fendi Casa objects and tell us what makes them so special?
The Apta sofa is one of the most emblematic products of the Fendi Casa collection, not only for being the first sofa presented, but also because it expresses the synthesis of style and tradition we want to propose. Another example is the proposal of the Diamante bed. A large volumes solution presented in early 2000s, proposed again with slight style variations that have made it one of the most representative products of Fendi Casa. Also the Giulietta 65 armchair is an iconic Fendi Casa proposal—its design and simplicity made it one of the most emblematic models—changing only covering and fabrics. Prestige is a sofa symbol of Fendi Casa, too, with a rich style defined by balanced proportions and elegant seating. In the bedroom, the Diamante bed has become an icon for style and good sleep in short time. Today, the new Diamante King takes the centrestage in every ambience; loyal to its aesthetic dimension, its strong personality is brought out by the majestic headboard. Exquisitely finished with a capitonné cheque, it is available in a very light layer of elegant and sophisticated in horizontal leather padding. As a final touch, the sable stitching along the edges makes the design even more precious.
