Daily roller from George & Willy

Gifts should be things one doesn’t exactly need but would love to have. A sleek scroll of paper that hangs in your kitchen or study fits nicely in that category. It lets you jot down lists on brown kraft paper set in a roller made from powder-coated aluminium. When you have ticked off all the items, just pull down the roll of paper, tear the list off and start a new one.

Price: Starts from NZ$210, or about 10,100, without kraft paper; and NZ$300 with kraft paper (shipping charge, NZ$70, extra)

Available at Georgeandwilly.com.

Minim playing cards

For obvious reasons, playing cards would be a great gift to take to a Diwali party. The Minim deck, designed by New York-based designer Joe Doucet, strips down the playing card. There’s no print in the centre and the symbols for hearts, spades and clubs are downward-facing triangles, upward-facing ones and three tiny circles, respectively.

Price: $10, or about 700 (shipping charge, $29.13, extra)

Available at Areaware.com.
