Designer Narendra Kumar’s shoe fetish (he has more than 175 pairs) and his unwavering belief in an androgynous toolkit for style had to, sooner rather than later, translate into him creating footwear for commercial consumption. A few months ago, Kumar launched a collaboration with thelabellife.com, a clothing and home décor portal, to design suede brogues for women. Described by its content team as “masstige, digitally native label stocks that understand Western influences on the urban woman’s taste”, the website boasts of names like Sussanne Khan, Malaika Arora and Bipasha Basu as its style editors. Grey brogues, with pop pink soles and cappuccino-coloured ones with yellow trims, priced at Rs2,940 a pair, make trendy companions.
