Mumbai Film and Comics Convention
21-22 December
The second edition of the Mumbai Film and Comics Convention will feature workshops and interactive sessions with comics and film artistes, the display and sale of a wide range of comic books and merchandise, special corners for creating comics and cartoons, as well as quizzes and book launches. The highlights of the event will be a screening of Burka Avenger, the first animated superhero series made in Pakistan, followed by a Q&A with its creator; and a session with the cast and director of the film Tere Bin Laden, who will introduce the forthcoming sequel of the comedy hit.

The Blackout Festival
21-23 December
This multi-genre festival aims to celebrate music, visuals, film, arts and food. On the first day, there will be a screening of films curated by film critic Aniruddha Batchu. On the second day, there will be an open kitchen breakfast and gaming sessions of Unreal Tournament, among others. The last day will include a session where street vendors will prepare dishes. Entry is only by invitation.

Kidnapping, Caucasian Style (Kavkazskaya Plennitsa, Ili Novye
Priklyucheniya Shurika)
23 December
Directed by Leonid Gaidai, this 1967 Soviet comedy deals with the tradition of bride-kidnapping in some parts of northern Caucasia. Shurik is a student at the Polytechnic Institute and plans a trip to Caucasus to study local customs and myths. He meets Nina and his educational trip turns into a hilarious adventure. The 82-minute film will be screened with English subtitles.

Bolshoi Ballet: Sleeping Beauty

The Bolshoi Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty is based on the Grimm Brothers’ famous fairy tale about Princess Aurora. The music has been composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, while the performance has been choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich. 2 hours, 35 minutes.

Flemish Masterpieces From Antwerp: Exclusive Paintings And Prints From the 17th Century

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is showcasing Flemish masterpieces from Antwerp, Belgium. There are 28 paintings by 17th century Dutch artists, including Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and Jacob Jordaens, on show.

Ana Gog are a five-piece rock band from Dublin, Ireland. Their sound is eclectic, with elements of folk and post-rock music. Their debut album, Making Trails, released early this year.

The Cyrus Cylinder And Ancient Persia—A New Beginning

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and The British Museum will host the legendary Cyrus Cylinder and other Persian artefacts in the exhibition, ‘Cyrus Cylinder And Ancient Persia—A New Beginning’. Found at Babylon (in modern Iraq) in 1879, the Cyrus Cylinder is a small clay cylinder and bears inscriptions in Babylonian cuneiform—one of the earliest forms of writing—of the conquest of Babylon in 539 BC by the Persian king Cyrus the Great.
The exhibition will also showcase inscriptions in old Persian cuneiform, forms of jewellery and tableware, gold plaque from the Oxus treasure, coins and seals.
‘Cyrus Cylinder And Ancient Persia—A New Beginning’ has come to Mumbai after travelling to Tehran in Iran as well as Washington, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles in the US.

A Quiet Little Entry and Fragments of a Past
20 December
The Bangalore International Centre is hosting the screening of two films directed by historian and author Uma Chakravarti. The first film, A Quiet Little Entry, tells the story of women fighting to be heard during the years of colonial rule. This 44-minute film is shot in south India and uses archival footage, music, photographs and voice-overs to tell the story.
The second film, Fragments of a Past, is an “exploration of the way historical events shape women to become what they are through their own unique relationship to the world around them". This 54-minute film looks at the life and struggles of female political activists around the country.

The World of Rock Art

The National Gallery of Modern Art, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and the Archaeological Survey of India are showcasing an exhibition of replicas and photographs of rock paintings, engravings and carvings to shed light on the ancient art. The works are from India, Africa, Europe, Australia, North America and South America.

Nero and Rusko

This edition of the Smirnoff Experience electronic music dance party will feature Nero, the trio of DJ-producers Dan Stephens, Joe Ray and Alana Watson. There is also Leeds-born DJ Rusko, who has made his mark with his enduring dubstep (a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the UK) anthems.
Also on the roster are Dualist Inquiry, a solo project of Delhi-based producer Sahej Bakshi; and the Mumbai-based Bay Beat Collective, a drum and bass act consisting of Kris Correya and Sohail Arora. Entry only for those above the age of 21.
