Even though cities as we know them are a very recent construct, they can make us feel alive like few other experiences can.

There is an intensity about any urban experience that comes from having people, energy, diversity and cultural experiences packed together into an area that’s far smaller than most countries. We love our cities not just because of the joys they offer, but also because of the intensity of the pleasures that fill them.

This is why Mint Lounge’s special edition is dedicated to the cities we love. In this issue, some of our best travel writers reminisce and write about their favourite cities—and what makes them special. From Istanbul to Mumbai to Bangalore—our writers take you on a ride through not just the obvious and the seen, but also the obscure and quirky that make these cities special.

We hope you enjoy reading the pieces here as much as we’ve loved putting them together. We hope that you’ll set out on your own this summer, and experience all the wonder that the familiar faces of your favourite cities can reveal to you.
