London: In the run-up to Christmas the consumers are continuing to spend despite rising unemployment and mounting fears about the economy due to which the British retail sales has risen unexpectedly in November, official figures showed on Thursday.

The Office for National Statistics revealed that retail sales during November increased by 0.3% from the October.

Analysts were anticipating a 0.6% decline.

The rise was driven by an increase in sales at household goods stores and non-store retail and repair shops, said the statistics office.
