A longer term view of the rise in food prices

While the current price rise in vegetables may be attributed to one-off factors, the fact remains that even over a longer period of three years the rise in food prices has been considerable. And, as the chart shows, the rise isn’t confined to vegetables or pulses or cereals, but has been across the board. The price rise in food is also felt disporportionatley by the poor, whose incomes have scarcely risen so much in the last three years.
