Sensex lifeline: high beeps and pratfalls

Orchid Chemicals (9.87% down)

Shares of Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd fell 9.87% on market concern that the selling of its injectable pharma business to US-based Hospira Inc. for $400 million (around Rs1,864 crore) will limit the Indian drug maker’s growth prospects.

Havells (9.96% up)

Havells India Ltd ended up 9.96% after the firm told CNBC-TV18 that Sylvannia will turn earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization positive in next 12 months after an ongoing restructuring exercise. Havells acquired Sylvannia in March 2007.

GHCL (9.70% up)

GHCL Ltd gained 9.70% on market speculation that Techno Electric may come out with a voluntary open offer for Sanjay Dalmia’s GHCL. The company’s shares closed at Rs54.55 each on the National Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
