New Delhi: India on 7 February made an exception to the ban on wheat exports, by allowing sale of 22,100 tonnes wheat flour to Maldives.
“The prohibition imposed on export of wheat flour shall not be applicable to export of 22,100 tonnes of wheat flour during 2008-09 to Maldives through STC and MMTC," the Director General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.
It said the exception was only for this transaction.
Last February, the government banned wheat exports till 31 December, 2007, and later extended it indefinitely. Wheat flour was also brought under the ban from October, 2007.
The government had banned export of wheat and wheat flour such as maida, semolina (rava, sirgi), wholemeal atta and resultant atta.
