Nikkei up 0.2% despite weak economic data
Tokyo: The Nikkei average edged up on Thursday, 11 October, despite some weak economic data out before the open, gaining 0.2% following a mixed session on Wall Street.
Weak August machinery orders figures appeared to have little impact on share prices.
But bank shares such as Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, and heavyweight issues such as Toyota Motor Corp were sold, dragging down the broader Topix index.
The benchmark Nikkei ended the morning session up 34.76 points at 17,212.65. The Topix index was down 0.1% at 1,656.79.
