The winners and losers in a state that has been run by five tribal chief ministers in the 14 years of its existence. 1/5Outgoing Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won from the Barhait seat by 24,087 votes, defeating his nearest BJP rival Hemlal Murmu. However, he lost to BJP’s Lois Marandi in Dumka. PTI 2/5Jharkhand BJP heavyweight and three times CM Arjun Munda lost from Kharsawan, considered Munda’s turf, to Dasrath Gagrai of JMM. HT 3/5Former deputy CM & AJSU party president Sudesh Mahto lost on his home turf Silli after representing it for nearly 15 years. Mahto lost to JMM’s Amit Kumar by 29,740 votes. AJSU is an ally of the BJP. HT 4/5Babulal Marandi, Jharkhand’s first CM and chief of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) lost from both—Giridih and Dhanwar constituencies. HT 5/5Former CM Madhu Koda lost from Majhgaon seat to JMM by 11,182 votes. His wife Geeta Koda however won from Jaganathpur. Both are members of the Jai Bharat Samanta Party.
