AAP politics and a capital on hold
Promises in manifestoes are one thing, delivering them is something else. That gap haunts the AAP now
The politics of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) is finally catching up with it. After its remarkable electoral success on debut in the Delhi state assembly polls, the party faces a tough choice.
Its dilemma is the product of its brand of politics. Its success is in no small measure due to the vote against the Congress. For it to now form a government on the basis of support from the Congress will be a negation of its stand. If it does not form a government, it will be held irresponsible. Delhi is a city that cannot afford to remain without a government for long.
There is no middle ground between these extreme positions. A political party cannot wait for ideal conditions. What compounds the AAP’s dilemma is that the party is ill-prepared to solve Delhi’s daunting problems.
Promises in manifestoes are one thing, delivering them is something else altogether. That gap haunts the AAP now.
