Which Hollywood film will you watch on 12 October?
Looper or Taken 2? What’s it going to be on 12 October? It depends on which aging star you prefer, Bruce Willis or Liam Neeson. Willis isn’t quite as nimble as he used to be, but he has aged better than, say, Sylvester Stallone. Willis stars alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt in Looper. The futuristic story, set in 2074, is about people who get killed by being sent back into their past. Get it? You’re not supposed to. Willis plays Joe, a “looper", or an assassin for hire, who encounters his younger self, played by Gordon-Levitt. Looper’s director is Rian Johnson, who has previously made Brick, also starring Gordon-Levitt and The Brothers Bloom, with Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz. The time-travel movie opened this year’s edition of the Toronto International Festival, and critics and audiences have generally loved it.
The other big Hollywood release of the week starting 12 Friday, Taken 2, is the sequel to the 2008 sleeper hit Taken. The first part was mostly panned by critics but embraced by audiences. Neeson played Bryan Mills, a former government agent who goes on the rampage when his daughter is kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring. In Taken 2, the men who were punished by Neeson return for revenge. The vigilante drama also stars Maggie Grace as Bryan Mills’s daughter and Famke Janssen as his wife.
