India may allow Wi-Fi on flights soon
Wi-Fi on flights currently not allowed due to security reasons, but aviation secretary says the matter has been taken up with relevant authorities
New Delhi: Passengers could be allowed to use Wi-Fi while flying in Indian airspace, aviation secretary R.N. Choubey said on Wednesday.
Choubey said the matter has been taken up with other government departments and “good news" is likely soon. “There is broad understanding and expect to give you good news in 10 days," he said.
The services are not allowed currently due to security concerns.
Indian carriers say offering the service is too expensive for them and none of them have Internet on-board.
Choubey, however, said there would be no caps on pricing if the service is allowed as that would be upto the airlines.
