New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reviewed the security situation in the country, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, on the eve of Independence day.

Top brass of the security establishment briefed him on the prevailing situation in the country and the steps taken to foil any attempt by terrorists and other elements to disturb peace, officials said. The meeting specially reviewed the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been witnessing unrest after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.

There were intelligence inputs earlier that militants might try to attack security forces in the run up to the Independence Day in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Situation in the national capital was also reviewed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the country on Monday from the ramparts of the Red Fort, where a galaxy of leaders, top civil, defence, police officials, school children and civilians will be present.

Those who attended the meeting includes National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, chiefs of intelligence agencies besides others.
