Policymakers across the world now widely accept that access to ICT in education can help individuals to compete in a global economy by creating a skilled work force and facilitating social mobility, according to a recent UN report.

Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide between cities and villages, the country fares far below the world’s standard when it comes to providing Internet and ICT support services in schools. India has one of lowest percentage of schools with ICT infrastructure, according to data complied by the Unesco Institute of Statistics.
