Railways to introduce potable water facility in new coaches
Every coach will have two filters fitted so that passengers don't need to get off to fill water bottles or spend money on mineral water
New Delhi: Indian Railways will fit the newly manufactured Deen Dayalu train coaches with water filtration systems to provide potable water for commuters.
Every coach will have two filters fitted at the front and rear of the coach so that passengers don’t need to get off the train to fill water bottles or spend money on mineral water during the journey.
The facility was one of the budget promises of railway minister Suresh Prabhu; 700 such coaches will be manufactured during the current fiscal at Chennai-based Integral Coach factory.
The coaches will have other features like more mobile charging points, fire extinguishers with anti-theft systems and interior panelling with aluminum composites, railway officials said on Tuesday.
The Deen Dayalu coaches also have cushioned luggage racks, bio-toilets and toilet occupation indication display board along with larger dustbins and LED lights.
