Lucknow: Controversial Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias ‘Raja Bhaiya´ resigned on Monday after he was booked for criminal conspiracy in the killing of a police officer in Pratapgarh district.

Eight policemen including the inspector at Kunda police station in Pratpgarh district were also suspended for fleeing the spot when the DSP was being attacked.NextMAds
The incident rocked the state Assembly which was adjourned for one hour when the Question Hour was to be taken up following opposition uproar.
Raja Bhaiya, an MLA from Kunda and a cabinet minister, met the chief minister in Lucknow this morning and submitted his resignation, official sources said, adding the resignation has been accepted by Governor B. L. Joshi.
Zia, posted as Circle Officer at Kunda town, was killed by a mob in Pratapgarh on Saturday when he had rushed there after a village head was shot dead over a land dispute.
An FIR was filed against Raja Bhaiya under Section 120B IPC(criminal conspiracy) following a complaint by the slain officer’s wife Parveen Azad in Kunda police station on Sunday. In all, four cases were lodged by police against him and others including one based on the complaint by Parveen.
In the complaint, Parveen alleged, “On the directions of Raja Bhaiya, Nagar Panchayat chairman Gulshan Yadav, minister’s representative Hari Om Srivastava, his driver Rohit Singh and supporter Guddu Singh first assaulted my husband with sticks and rods and later shot him dead.”
Parveen, who demanded a CBI inquiry, said, “I want justice. If I don’t get justice, I will commit suicide in front of the chief minister’s house. I’m not just declaring this, I will do it.”sixthMAds
Shortly after he resigned, Raja Bhaiya demanded a CBI inquiry and reiterated he was ready to go to jail to save embarassment to the Samajwadi Party government.
Bhaiya said this while giving a clarification in the Vidhan Sabha after the matter came up through separate adjournment notices in the Zero Hour.
He rejected the charge that he had an old score to settle with Zia. “Had I been so opposed to the CO I would have easily got him transferred instead of getting him murdered”, he added.
