New Delhi/Mumbai: Actor Aamir Khan, who was present at Rajpath on Thursday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Swachh Bharat" mission, said he will be happy if he is made the brand ambassador of the cleanliness drive and appealed the people of the country to support the initiative.

“I would be very happy if the responsibility is given to me. I would accept it whole heartedly because it is a very big step for the country. If we pay attention to cleanliness, at least eight to ten things get right. Like, health improves with cleanliness," Khan told reporters when asked whether he would like to be the face of the mission.

The Bollywood actor, who has been raising awareness about various social issues with his TV show “Satyamev Jayate", said, “I feel every Indian will have to take part in it. Other than this, municipalities too have to manage solid and liquid waste. If both things go hand in hand, the good will be achieved."

Khan was in Delhi for the launch of the event and was invited on the stage by the Prime Minister when he administered a pledge to thousands of people, including schools children and government employees at Rajpath for remaining committed to cleanliness to make the country clean.

“I appeal to the people of the country that what the PM has spoken about is a beautiful thought and we should walk shoulder to shoulder with him so that his dream that we can gift a clean India to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary turns true," he said.

Asked when was the last time he held a broom, Khan said that he cleans his house and had used the broom last week. “Also, we prepare manure of the wet waste at our office. Our office is totally waste-free," he said.

Meanwhile, actress Priyanka Chopra has also accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invite to clean public places as a part of his “Swachh Bharat Mission". Modi on Wednesday appealed to people to dedicate 100 hours a year towards cleanliness, and as a part of which he also invited Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Kamal Haasan to help clean public places.

Priyanka took to Twitter to show her support for PM’s cleanliness drive. “I humbly accept respected Prime Minster Narendra Modiji’s challenge. This is an idea that is long overdue CleanIndiaCampaign."

The “Mary Kom" actress also encouraged her fans to contribute towards the mission. “If we don’t get involved and support this campaign, nothing can happen. But if we come together we can make a difference. Every action we take will be important. I want to make the change. I want a clean India. It’s time to clean up our act," she wrote on her Twitter page.
