Need to deregulate education: Pitroda
New Delhi: Sam Pitroda, advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Information Infrastructure and Innovations Thursday urged central government to de-regulate education sector and pass the education reform Bills pending before the parliament.
Addressing a conclave of Pan-IIT alumni here, he said, “deregulation of education and seamless connectivity, key to transform education sector. That is what we did to economy in 1991 and that is what we need to do to education now".
Pitroda said the current education system has become obsolete and is full of irregularities, therefore “we need rigorous expansion of the education system with better quality standards and funding models to take higher education to the next level". He also said that the government should show urgency in passing education reform Bills. At least three education reform Bills are pending in parliament currently.
