Bengaluru: A fire broke out at a lab of biotechnology firm Syngene International Ltd’s campus in Jigani industrial area, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on Monday.
No one was hurt in the incident that happened post-office hours and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Sixteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire is being brought under control, fire department officials said.
“This is to inform that there has been an incident of fire at the Syngene campus, Jigani Link road, which has been brought under control with the assistance of local authorities. Preliminary reports indicate no one was injured in the incident and there has been no loss of life. Syngene has taken all necessary measures to ensure safety of its employees," Syngene said in a statement.
Syngene is the contract research services arm of Biocon Ltd.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairperson and managing director of Biocon, said the fire seems to have broken out in one of the nine labs of the company.
“Fortunately, no one was hurt as it happened post-office hours," she said.
