Many Indians may be clamouring for action after the Uri terrorist attack, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first public comments on the issue, decided to play the statesman’s role. Calling upon Pakistanis to introspect as to why India was exporting software while Pakistan was exporting terrorists, Modi championed India’s democratic values and its economic benefits.

The problem is not simple, as observing restraint has seen an iterative game of terrorist attacks backed by the Pakistani security establishment. This phony war has plunged Pakistan into an orgy of sectarian violence due to growing radicalization of the society and left its economy far behind India’s. Even its traditional allies like the US are seeing through Pakistan’s dubious game and cutting aid to Pakistan.
