New Delhi: Any public-funded effort such as a public-private partnership project to deliver a public service or purpose should be under the Right to Information (RTI), Planning Commission member Abhijit Sen said on Monday.

He was speaking at an event to mark eight years of the landmark legislation that enables citizens to demand transparent information disclosure from public authorities, defined as those who are funded substantially by the government.

The former JNU professor clarified that this was his personal stand.

Information commissioner, Sushma Singh said that even if it was not clear if PPP projects fall within the ambit of the transparency law, guidelines for these projects could include a provision for voluntary disclosure of information relevant to beneficiaries.
