After a landslide victory in Haryana, the BJP has, for the first time, the opportunity to form a government in the state entirely on its own. After ruling for two terms, the Congress fell to the third position, while the INLD came second. The vote share of the BJP increased from 9.04% the 2009 assembly elections to 33.2% in 2014 at the cost of the Congress, whose share decreased to 20.6%. The vote share of the INLD fell from 25.79% to 24.1%. The research team at and Mint analyse the last three election results, the performance of the major parties in different socio-religious segments, and the winning margins in the just-concluded assembly elections.
