New Delhi: The government in its last budget had announced a 0.5% cess to build rural infrastructure which will be levied on a range of services from on Wednesday. The list includes travel, insurance policies, restaurants and movie tickets.

While the Central government continues to tighten its noose around Robert Vadra, businessman and Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law, the leader attacked the government for its two-year celebrations, saying that a prime minister is not a shehenshah (monarch).

The recently-concluded assembly elections in Tamil Nadu have raised a serious question on the third alternative in the state. This assembly election was hyped as a multi-cornered contest but the parties saw less than 10% vote share.

Tamil Nadu elections: Can there ever be an alternative to DMK or AIADMK?
