NDA to work for development with renewed vigour: BJP

Patna: Overwhelmed by an unprecedented mandate for the NDA in the Bihar Assembly polls, BJP on Wednesday said the coalition headed by Nitish Kuamr would work with renewed vigour for development of the state in its second term.

“We are overwhelmed by the landslide mandate for which we thank the 10 crore people of Bihar with folded hands the NDA will try its best to live up to the great expectation of the electorate and work for the development of the state," senior BJP leader and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters here.

“It is a victory of development over caste-based politics" he said.

On whether the NDA expected the huge win, he said the result had gone beyond his own expectation as he had visualised around 160 seats for the ruling coalition.

Summing up reasons for the historic verdict for the NDA, he said the outcome was a combination of anti-Lalu votes and support for good governance, empowerment of poor and women.

The ‘Nitish factor’ too worked for the NDA and fetched votes, Modi said.

Basking in the glory of the best-ever performance of his party in Bihar, Modi said the result was a fitting reply to the smear campaign that certain communities were inimical to BJP and added that the victory of its Muslim woman candidate Sama Jafar from Amour assembly seat proved that the minorities had voted for the saffron party.

Asked if JD(U) wins a near majority seats on its own and breaks free from the BJP in future, Modi said the two coalition partners would remain together irrespective of “our individual numbers and Nitish Kumar had also said so."

“Our alliance goes back to 15 long years. We have contested together five parliamentary and four assembly polls as allies," the senior BJP leader said, adding that the two parties had worked together during the worst of times and would stay together in future to share the good times too.
