Karunanidhi discharged from Kauvery hospital
M. Karunanidhi has recovered well from breathing difficulty due to throat and lung infection, says Kauvery hospital
Chennai: M. Karunanidhi, president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, was discharged from Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Friday “after recovering well from breathing difficulty due to throat and lung infection", the hospital said in a release.
“Doctors have advised him complete rest and restriction of visitors. As he needs a tracheostomy tube for a few more weeks, medical and nursing care will continue to be provided at his home by Kauvery hospital," said Dr S. Aravindhan, executive director of Kauvery hospital, in a statement.
“An antibiotic course has been completed," the statement added.
The 92-year-old leader was admitted on 15 December with difficulty in breathing owing to throat and lung infection. He underwent a tracheostomy to optimize breathing on 16 December.
Karunanidhi has not been seen in public after he developed a drug allergy on 25 October. He was admitted to the same hospital “for optimization of nutrition and hydration" on 1 December and stayed till 7 December, before being discharged.
The general council meeting of the party scheduled for 20 December, where DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin was expected to be elevated as working president, was indefinitely postponed due to Karunanidhi being admitted to hospital.
