Shivpal Yadav quits UP govt, steps down as state SP president

Shivpal Yadav on Thursday resigned from the Uttar Pradesh government, and also stepped down as state president of the Samajwadi Party—a couple of days after he was appointed to the post by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Shivpal Yadav’s son, Aditya Yadav, too, resigned as chairman of Pradeshik Cooperative Federation.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, however, has refused to accept Shivpal Yadav’s resignation from the government. Read more

India set for a bumper crop of foodgrains: Govt

After two years of drought and declining crop production, a record foodgrain production on the back of a well distributed monsoon is expected in 2016-17, agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh said on Thursday. While pulses production could touch 22 million tonnes, up 33% from last year, the upcoming Rabi or winter crop is also likely to be robust due to ample water levels in major reservoirs and adequate soil moisture. Tata-govt in ITI venture

The technical education department today signed an MoU with Tata Metaliks to run an industrial training institute (ITI) in West Midnapore.
