BJP to form government in four states: Amit Shah
The parliamentary board authorised Amit Shah to decide the chief ministerial nominee in the four states in consultation with party observers of respective states
New Delhi: After a landslide win in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Saturday said that the ruling party was going to form government in four states including Goa and Manipur even as he stressed that going forward, it would be a “politics of performance”.
“Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur—we are going to form government in all the four states. We have lost in Punjab but our alliance there has won more than 40 seats. This will usher in a change in India’s polity,” Shah told reporters at a press conference at BJP’s national headquarters in the national capital.
“This is a win for people, for their determination. This is a win of Modi’s leadership and it is a win of the hard work and efforts of our party workers,” he added.
Stressing that the developmental schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government including demonetisation, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (cooking gas to poor households) and electricity in villages have led to the party’s win in the state. “Double-digit growth of the country can happen only with a double digit growth in UP,” he added.
Taking a swipe at the Congress party, Shah pointed out that the BJP is on its way to winning six out of the 10 assembly seats in Amethi and Raebareli—the Lok Sabha seats of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Shah also said that the BJP’s parliamentary board will meet later on Sunday to discuss likely chief ministerial candidates in these four states. A PTI report later said that the parliamentary board has authorised Amit Shah to decide the chief ministerial nominee in the four states in consultation with party observers of respective states.
