Former SAT chief Achuthan passes away

Mumbai: C. Achuthan, former presiding officer of the Securities Appellate Tribunal, died on Monday evening from cardiac arrest on the way to the pilgrimage centre of Sabarimala in the southern state of Kerala, according to two persons familiar with the development.

He was 68. Achuthan was one of the directors appointed by the government to shepherd Satyam Computer Services Ltd through a rescue plan after a fraud that was revealed in January 2009. He was also chairman of the takeover regulations advisory committee of capital market regulator Securities and Exchange board of India, Sebi.
