New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Thursday refused to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to R.K. Pachauri, former chairman of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and former chief of The Energy and the Resources Institute (TERI), who was booked in a sexual harassment case in February.

The court was hearing a petition seeking cancellation of the bail. Justice S.P. Garg said that the court will not interfere with the proceedings of the Saket Sessions Court as a hearing on Pachauri’s plea to rejoin TERI is scheduled to come up in Sessions Court, Saket on 17 July.

The bail was granted to Pachauri by a Delhi court on 21 March on several conditions including that he would cooperate with the probe, would not enter the Teri office and won’t threaten or intimidate the victim or the witnesses in the case.

An FIR was registered against Pachauri on 13 February by a 29-year-old woman colleague, who alleged that he had been sexually harassing her since September 2013. The complainant submitted hundreds of text and WhatsApp messages in support of her claim.

The FIR was registered on charges of sexual harassment under Sections 354, 354 (a), 354 (d)(molestation) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The court set the next hearing for 30 September stating that the petition to cancel Pachauri’s anticipatory bail needed a detailed hearing.
