Mumbai: The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), a lobby group for transporters, has called off a nationwide strike that was to begin on 1 April.

This follows a series of meeting held with Vijay Chhibber, secretary, ministry of road transport and highways, since 26 March.

“Our issues were considered very sympathetically as the secretary also felt that these were genuine concerns and should be resolved in a time-bound manner," AIMTC said in a statement on Friday.

AIMTC represents about 7.5 million truckers and transporters and about 4 million bus and tourist operators.

AIMTC demanded industry status for the road transport sector, immediate withdrawal of a hike proposed on third-party insurance premium for goods vehicles, fixing of minimum freight rates for the road transport sector and the stopping of monthly increases in diesel prices.
