CWG OC to get three months extension; to find new address

New Delhi: The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is likely to get a three-month extension till December this year to assist in the multi-agency probe into alleged financial irregularities in the conduct of mega sporting event last year.

Sources said that the OC, whose term is slated to end in September, will also be moving into a new office inside Major Dhyan Chand Stadium near here.

They said the Games organising body’s present office at 1, Jai Singh Road will be given to the Home Ministry which may give it to National Investigation Agency (NIA) after it is vacated.

“The new place has been chosen and work to develop it into office premises to accommodate our staff is on. We expect to move to the new office by the end of next month," a senior OC official said.

If approved by the government, it will be the third time that the OC term would be extended.

The official said that a decision regarding extending the term of the Organising Committee for nearly three months has been reached by consensus among the members of the executive board which will be conveyed to the Sports Ministry.

“There is a need of extension as the probe in major contracts executed by the OC are still under investigation. Besides, the Committee is coordinating with CBI and CVC among others," the official said.

The Organising Committee was first scheduled to be wound up by March this year but authorities decided to extend the tenure till 30 June. After which it was further given three months time, till 30 September , to finish its job.
