Anna Hazare likely to attend Arvind Kejriwal’s indefinite fast
It is unclear whether Hazare would participate in the fast which begins on 23 March in Delhi
New Delhi: Anna Hazare is likely to attend the proposed indefinite fast by Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal later this month in Delhi, six months after the activist-turned-politician parted ways with his mentor.
“Anna has told Arvind that he would come to Delhi to attend Arvind’s fast," said Kumar Vishwas, a close associate of Kejriwal. “Right now, it is not clear as to many how many days he would be here and whether he would sit on a fast or not but he gave Arvind his blessings for the fast."
After anchoring a series of nationwide agitation against corruption for over a year and a half, Hazare and Kejriwal split over the bureaucrat-turned-Right to Information activist’s decision to form a political party. Hazare had asked Kejriwal and his associates not to use his name or photo in their political campaign.
Kejriwal visited Hazare at his Ralegan Siddhi home in Maharashtra on Monday. Kejriwal’s fast, beginning 23 March, comes ahead of the Delhi state assembly elections that see his new party’s first test.
Anil Sharma, an associate of Hazare from Ralegan Siddhi, said that the decision on his participation will be taken according to Hazare’s schedule. “Anna is doing a national tour and the confirmation for the same would happen only after checking the schedule," Sharma said.
