Govt to announce steps to de-stress power sector soon, says Arun Jaitley
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Jaitley said he would also try to derive consensus on both GST and land bills in the next session of Parliament
New Delhi: Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday said that the government in the next couple of days will announce a slew of measures to de-stress the ailing power sector and also make public a list of exemptions to be removed before it brings down corporate tax rates.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Jaitley said he would also try to derive consensus on both goods and services tax (GST) and land bills in the next session of Parliament. The winter session of Parliament will begin in the third week of November.
Jaitley said the committee which is working on the bankruptcy code will submit its report in the next couple of days. “We will translate it into law and introduce it in the next session of Parliament," he added.
Chiding the Congress for doing a “policy somersault" on GST for political reasons, Jaitley said he is confident of numbers in the upper house to pass the legislation, though he will speak to the Congress and try to “make them see reason".
Jaitley said he is also considering allocating more funds to the rural road construction programme as budgetary allocation was less.
