India ranks near the bottom of the IP survey
Though India's overall score rose to 24% of the total possible score, the GIPC said the country's national intellectual property environment remains quite challenging
India’s ranked 29 among 30 countries in a survey of intellectual property environment carried out by the Global Intellectual Property Centre (GIPC).
Though India’s overall score rose to 24% of the total possible score, the GIPC, which is part of the lobby group US Chamber of Commerce, said India’s national intellectual property environment remains quite challenging.
It said the new government is making all the right noises on the need for intellectual property rights reform. GIPC called for amending patentability requirements, renouncing the use of compulsory licences as a commercial tool, and strengthening the copyright framework to address online and physical piracy.
